The Rule of Thirds

In one of her interviews, Olympian, author and film maker Alexi Pappas shares what she learnt from her coach – The Rule of Thirds. According to the rule, if we are pursuing a worthy goal, a third of the time we are in pursuit we should feel great, a third of the time, we should feel ok and a third of the time we should feel bad. If the proportion of the time we feel great, ok and bad is around the same, we are on track. On days when we feel shitty, we can just attribute it to one […]

Seeds of success

Premise: After the hustle bustle and the celebrations of the new year, we are now entering the time of the year, which is fraught with opportunities and dangers in equal measures. This is the time to celebrate the past year, the peaks we scaled and give a pat on our backs for all that hard work. I am sure every team does that. This is also the time to reflect at the valley’s we encountered in the past year and think about the reasons we ended up in there. And think about what did we do get ourselves out of […]

Strategies for Success

It is that time of the year, when most of us schedule mid-year appraisals for ourselves and assess progress against the goals that we set up at the start of the year. While this is a good practice (if you do this, not just as an activity to just tick off of your to do list, but in all its sincerity, you are already better than most people), this still isn’t setting yourself up for success. So, Mulla decided to join in.. It was a fashion show and beautiful models, all dressed up, were seen walking the ramp. Sometime later, a fuming Mulla stormed out of the city hall. When his friend saw him storming out, he followed Mulla and asked him what got him so angry and worked up? Mulla said – They show all these beautiful women walking […]

Self Appraisal – A Year Gone By..

I started the year 2014 by announcing publicly my goals for 2014. You can find them here. I now wanted to reflect on the year gone by and do a self-appraisal on my progress from where I started and intended to reach. I had decided that the single word for the year would be “Transformation” – in 5 different realms. Physical Transformation: I am glad that I have been able to  lose 7Kgs and a few inches around my waist. What worked in my favor was getting a fitbit device. The device provided the constant feedback on how I was doing […]
