Driving Significant Results

I was going through my notes from the past few years and I stumbled onto my notes from a book called “Turning Goals into Results” by Jim Collins. In the book he talks about the power of something he calls “Catalytic Mechanisms”. These are devices that we put in place within our businesses that play an outsized role in translating our lofty aspirations into reality. We can understand what a catalytic mechanism is and how it helps us by looking at an example. I would like to introduce you to Granite Rock. The Source of Grit and Resilience

In a recent post on HBR (https://hbr.org/2021/01/the-secret-to-building-resilience), authors Rob Cross, Karen Dillon and Danna Greenberg talk about building resilience based on their yet unpublished research. They argue and I quote, A well-developed network of relationships can help us rebound from setbacks by: – Helping us shift work or manage surges – Helping us to make sense of people or politics in a given situation – Helping us find the confidence to push back and self advocate – Helping us see a path forward – Providing empathic support so we can release negative emotions – Helping us to laugh at ourselves and the situation – Reminding us of the purpose […]

This large scale experiment has also shown that work from anywhere is a going to be a distinct reality in most of our lives (unless it cant be).   This definitely means that we need to rethink the way we function – work, play and meet with our colleagues, customers and partners.   In this regard, I read this HBR post “3 Things Virtual Meetings Offer That In-Person Ones Don’t” written by Bob Frisch and Cary Greene. You can read the entire post here. […]

ABCDEFG of Successful Digital Transformation

I came across this very interesting post by John Hagel, where he brings up a very interesting topic, one that I feel strongly about – Digital Transformation. It appears that you can not go through a corporate presentation or a CxO presentation without hearing the word “Digital Transformation”. Not a day goes by when I don’t read about some initiative run by a business under the banner of “Digital Transformation”. As with any other loosely thrown around words, this term has also lost a lot of meaning and significance. As John clearly points out in his post, doing the same […]
