All things naturally move towards and want to exist in an equilibrium of sorts. So are we as humans. We seek out and continue to move towards a higher level of productivity until we reach an equilibrium when our capability matches the expectation from us.
Once we reach this point, we need to make a choice.
Do we settle at this level or do we want to take this to the next level of equilibrium?
And then we need to make this choice again and again….
The challenge is that most of the time, we are not making this choice intentionally – it is made for us. A manager or a customer or friend or a spouse pushing us to attempt to reach the next level of equilibrium.
The potential for breakthrough performance exists in all of us. All we need to do is to not settle. It is in our best interest to continue to strive towards a higher form of equilibrium and in order to do so, push boundaries.
First step in this journey is to realise when we reach a state of equilibrium. Then we need to explore the direction in which we would like to start pushing boundaries. Once decided, we then start pushing boundaries.
It will definitely help if we can surround ourselves with people who expect more out of themselves and out of others around them.
Or WE can be that person.
