The teacher, philosopher, J Krishnamurthy’s insight on the impact of culture on our thinking is deep and I believe right on target. We are social beings and our evolutionary biology still plays a significant role in how we show up, think and act in social settings.
This in turn has an impact on what we think about, how we think about it and what are the boundaries within which we think about it. It is very rare that someone is able to go beyond these boundaries and think outside the cultural norms, usually the few exceptions to the rule.
So, if we want to expand our minds and break the sway the culture has on us and our thinking, we need to stay close to the edge of the order we have created amidst the chaos of the world and move outward toward the chaos.
This requires us to display courage, trust our ability to handle anything that might come at us with the curiosity to explore and understand. While it is important for us as individuals to do this, it is an imperative, if we are a leader and want to be one worth following.
In conclusion:
As leaders, it becomes our responsibility to shape the culture in order to shape the thinking that it enables. It becomes our responsibility to understand the chaos at the edges of order and expand the order in our universe.
