All of us go through and experience tough times at some point in time. So, it is expected that sooner or later, we will face a situation when someone on our team is going through a difficult time. It can be personal or professional.
In this video, I share what we can do as leaders in that situation. Since this is not a question or if it will happen, but when will it happen – we can prepare for this situation in advance.
There are only three ways to respond to this well:
- You can hear them out and talk about the situation so that they feel HEARD
- You can give emotional support and physically hug them (if appropriate in your culture) , so they feel HUGGED
- You can help them put together a plan to address the situation and move past it, so they feel HELPED.
Any one of them is good enough. But if you really want to become Leaders Worth Following, you will do all three. While that builds loyalty and trust, more importantly, it is the right thing to do by them.
