First Principles Based Leadership – 4 Ways to Know Anything

Premise I was introduced to John Vervaeke and his work by the inimitable Matt Church who leads the Thought Leaders Business School and is based in Australia. John is an award-winning professor of psychology, cognitive science, and Buddhist psychology at the University of Toronto. He says that there are four different ways we can know things, which he calls the 4P’s of Knowing. These are about the manners in which and the mechanisms of knowing something rather than the content of the knowledge itself or how we know about something rather than what we know of. The four ways (4P’s) […]

Speaking from a Stage

To be a good communicator, especially on stage, remember these three core principles: 1) Initially, you’re not the focus until trust is built with the audience. 2) People won’t care about your message unless you give them a reason. 3) Speak the audience’s language and address their aspirations to hold their attention. Consistency in these practices builds trust and improves your public speaking skills over time.

In the post, he talks about the importance of original thought provoking content. Content that deepen’s someone’s understanding of their own challenges and how to solve them by sharing an insight that is either original or is non-obvious has significant impact. I agree with his analysis and also the kind of impact that he shares this can have on someone’s behaviour (Buying or otherwise). The challenge with this is that creating content that can have this kind of an […]

Do you live “Above the Line” or “Below the Line”?

I first came across this phrase “Above the Line” when Matt Church used it in one of his sessions and since then continues to use it on an ongoing bases. This led me to dig a bit deeper and find a book titled, “Above the Line”, in which authors Stephen Klemich and Mara Klemich share the following, and I quote, Welcome to the line, where so often the best of yourself is pitted against the worst of yourself. – From the book “Above the Line” They go on to talk about the fact that our society, workplace and all the […]
