I recently read this article about a new video game that is on Kickstart that allows young adults to learn about how to distinguish between real and fake news. You can read the article here.
I believe this is a great idea for the following reasons:
People learn a lot when they are having fun and don’t think about learning. I wrote about the concept of head fakes in my post about what I learnt from Randy Pausch’s last lecture. You can read that blog here.
If the team designs the game well, which I believe they would, the chances that the players would learn something useful and important is very high.
One of the things that I have learnt from my interactions with (mostly listening to) Matt Church is the importance of context if we really want to have an influence on someone’s thinking or behavior, which is what all learning is. By engaging their potential target in the context that is both familiar and interesting to them, the team is increasing their chances of success.
I would like to wish the entire team a lot of success for their project. You can back the project here if you believe in the same.
