There is an Opportunity hidden in every Challenge

I am a tennis fan and love watching the game and play it whenever I can. Here is a point that caught my fancy and I cant not share this with you.

Watch the point first.

The player who eventually wins the point is struggling to keep himself within the point and when he approaches the net, he gets a ball that catches the net and catches him in an awkward position. But by being fully present and reacting to what happened, he is able to win the point.

There is no way we can predict what would have happened if the ball hadn’t caught the net and came through. May e he would have hit a volley winner and went on to win the point. Maybe his volley didn’t get through and he lost the point. We will never know.

One thing we know for sure is that, had the ball not caught the net, he would not have had the opportunity to win the point on that shot.

Same thing happens to us all the time in life. Life throws us curve balls in the form of challenges and problems. It is up to us to respond to them in a way that we could only respond because of the challenge and find a way to continue to move forward and play.

As leaders, it is our responsibility to see this for ourselves and also for the people whom we lead. There is always an opportunity hidden in every challenge. We just need to find it and exploit it to our ends.
