In this video, I share my perspective on the transition from being an expert to becoming a leader in an organization.
Every transition (from being an expert and an individual contributor to a manager managing people to manager managing managers to manager managing organizations) requires us to unlearn some things and learn some new things.
Each transition requires us to move further and further from being an expert or specialist to becoming a generalist, towards thinking abstractly and toward thinking in frameworks / theories.
Each transition requires us to focus on different things. From being focused on developing our own expertise to developing other experts, from being focused on content to becoming focused on context.
Each transition requires us to move from developing people to developing systems and structures to build leverage.
So, depending on where you are in the leadership ladder, there is a different thing that we need to focus on, unlearn some things and learn something else.
Leadership is multi-dimensional. The higher you are in the leadership ladder, the more cross-functional your understanding needs to become.
I am going on a journey on this channel to help people at each one of the steps of the ladder to help people become leaders worth following, who create cultures worth belonging to. So, I hope and wish that you follow along with me on this journey.
